An Arch Fault Circuit Interrupter is designed to stop fires by sensing non-functional arches and will disconnect power before the arch starts a fire. Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters currently are required “in all circuits that feed receptacles in bedrooms of dwelling units.” per the National Electrical Code. However, we believe that all circuits of a home should be protected, as fires don’t just start in bedrooms.
Arching faults often occur in damaged or worn out wires and cords. Older homes with aging wiring systems can especially benefit from the added protection of AFCIs. AFCIs should be installed by qualified electricians.
